Partner Daniel Peña lectured about the relation between the international rules of electronic commerce and the UNIDROIT principles in the UNIDROIT Forum that takes place in the Universidad del Externado on April 10th, 2012. The main conference will be taught by the Spanish professor Pilar Perales Visacallas and also other professors William Namen, Adriana Zapata, Jorge Oviedo and Juan Pablo Cárdenas will be speakers, among others.

On March 30, 2012, Gabriela Mancero attended the XXVII General Meeting of affiliates of the Colombian-Ecuadorian Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Integration where she was ratified in her position as principal member of the Board of Directors. Dr. Renato Torres, Investments Coordinator of the Ecuadorian Productivity Ministry addressed the attendees with a summary of the new Production Statute recently enacted.

Gabriela Mancero attended the conference on women in the legal profession in Colombia hosted by the Vance Center during the week of March 12 in Bogota. The conference presented the results of a survey of Colombian law firms on issues that affect the advancement of women lawyers in Colombia. The conference was co-hosted by the Vance Center, Cámara de Servicios Legales (ANDI), Latin Lawyer and Universidad de los Andes.

Our partners Daniel Peña and Gabriela Mancero Bucheli participated as speakers at the Legal Forum which took place within the framework of the 2nd. International Congress of Naval Design and Engineering, organized by Cotecmar in the city of Cartagena, Colombia, with the conference "Social and economic impact of technology transfer: Contracts' best practices. " The event included an exhibition of the most advanced shipbuilding industry in Colombia and in several countries and was attended by thousands of foreign investors and dozens of specialized speakers.
MARCH 10, 2011 Our partner Gabriela Mancero Bucheli attended the breakfast hosted by the Bar of Mining and Petroleum lawyers, on the impact of the recent tax reform in Colombia's oil and mining sector. The event was held at Bogotá's Gun Club and included the participation of Dr. Alfredo Lewin Figueroa, recognized tax attorney, who spoke on the issues that were amended by Law 1430 of 2010 and their effects in the sector.

Partner Gabriela Mancero Bucheli, along with Dr. Luis Fernando Macías, published an article entitled "Las operaciones de integración empresarial frente a las exigencias ambientales en Colombia" (Mergers meet environmental requirements in Colombia), in the third volume of the Mining and Energy Regulation series, published by Universidad Externado de Colombia and compiled by Luis Ferney Moreno.

Daniel Peña, Peña Mancero Abogados' partner, was responsible for delivering an award-tribute to Professor Julio Tellez, a researcher at the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) who has contributed to the development of computer law in Mexico with an extensive bibliographical work. This took place during a Tribute Dinner on Computer Law and digital journalism in Latin America, organized by ACODITIC, the Colombian Association of Computer Law and New Technologies of Information and Communication, with the support from the ADALID Association and the sponsorship of Pena Mancero Abogados.

Universidad Externado de Colombia's rector, Dr. Fernando Hinestrosa, and the University Board, composed among others by Jaime Bernal Cuellar, Saul Sotomonte, Mario Fernández and Roberto Hinestrosa, in a solemn ceremony held at the Main Auditorium of the University, discerned the appointment of Professor Daniel Peña for over 10 continuous years as chair, as well as his research work on legal matters. The chairs run include International Recruitment, New Technologies Law, Internet's Legal Regime and Electronic Commerce. Daniel Peña is Director of the Research Group on Electronic Commerce of his Alma Mater. Externado has one of the most recognized schools of law in the country and this year celebrates its 125 anniversary. The university enjoys international prestige as well as institutional recognition from the Ministry of Education for unprecedented timetables for the country.
DECEMBER 28, 2010 Partner Daniel Peña received a scholarship from the Andean Development Corporation, the Solventia Foundation (Spain), and the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce to participate in the International Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration, organized by the School of International Arbitration under the aegis of the Arbitration and Mediation Center at the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá, which took place during the months of October, November and December of 2010. Several renowned international arbitrators participated, among them, Roque Caivano (Argentina), Anibal Sabater (US-Spain), Carlos Soto (Peru), Eduardo Zuleta (Colombia), Nicolas Gamboa (Colombia), Jorge Mas (Spain) and Francisco Orrego Vicuña (Chile).

Partner Daniel Peña gave a lecture named "The Legal Aspects of the Valuation of Intangible Assets" on the first anniversary of the Colombian Association of New Technologies of Information and Communications Law, ACODITIC, after its wording in Spanish. The event was held in the auditorium of the Chamber of Commerce of Bogota in the district of Chapinero and was attended by over seventy people.

Partner Daniel Peña participated in the 39 Annual Conference of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers ICANN in Cartagena, Colombia. This meeting, the most important regarding Internet governance in the world, was held in Colombia for the first time. The meeting brought together nearly one thousand participants from various countries, where issues such as the launch of the new names of top-level domain (gTLDs) and the configuration of ICANN as an international organization with multiple layers of decision and several participant persons, groups and entities, were discussed. The host organization was the registrar of the .CO domain, the company .CO Internet SAS under the aegis of Juan Diego Calle y Eduardo Santoyo. The Government of Colombia had the representation of the Minister Diego Molano and the President Juan Manuel Santos.

Partner Daniel Peña attended the Panel on the Evolution of the Concept of Arbitrability in International Arbitration with the participation of distinguished international arbitrators in the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá. The event discussed the current thesis of arbitrable matters in international commercial arbitration in the United States, the European Union and Latin America and was attended by several leading international referees including Anibal Sabater, Nicolas Gamboa, Jorge Mas and Juan Pablo Cárdenas.

Our partner Daniel Peña participated in XXXIV Seminar on Criminal Law at Universidad Externado de Colombia on "Criminal Law and Business", with a presentation on "Security of information systems as a paradigm of cybercrime." The Externado conference had the presence of more than 200 people. It is traditionally the most important academic event of the year on criminal law in Colombia. His conference will be published in a book titled "Enterprise Criminal Law".

The Electronic Commerce Subcommittee of the Paris International Chamber of Commerce and the Bogota Chamber of Commerce organized the event "Computer Crime: Trends and Prospects after Act 1273 of 2009." Partner Daniel Peña participated in the event’s overall coordination and with the conference "Cybercrime: The new reality of felony in the digital environment." The event was attended by over 150 entrepreneurs in Bogotá.
